When shopping for term life insurance, you want to find the right amount of insurance coverage at a reasonable price with a company you can trust. But for many people, getting started is the hardest part. That’s where the following Life Insurance Checklist can help.

1. What you would like your policy to achieve?
Ask yourself what it is you want your life insurance to do. For example, do you want to have insurance coverage that will:

Pay funeral arrangements?
Pay the outstanding balance owing on a mortgage and other debts?
Offset the loss of your income? And if so, for how long?
Contribute to the future education of your children?
A combination of all or part of the above?

Knowing what you would like to accomplish with your life insurance policy and approximately how much you need to achieve these goals will help you determine how much life insurance you should consider purchasing. Online life insurance calculators are available to help you put a dollar value on the amount of coverage you need.

2. Who would you like to insure under the life insurance policy?
Most insurance companies offer a variety of life insurance products to suit your lifestyle and family needs. You can get an insurance policy on your own life, or you can get one policy for both you and your spouse (called a joint life insurance policy). The most common joint life policy provides coverage when the first partner dies, leaving the life insurance benefit to the surviving spouse.

3. How long will you need life insurance?
Consulting a psychic isnt necessary, although it does require that you estimate the timing of your life insurance needs. For example:

When will your mortgage be paid off? The amortization period of your mortgage will often determine how long your term life insurance policy should be.
When will your children be finished school? One day they’ll finish their education and having enough life insurance coverage to pay their educational expenses won’t be necessary.
When are you planning to retire? You will have less income to replace at that time.

Knowing how long youll need life insurance coverage before you begin shopping will ensure you’re comfortable with the life insurance product you end up purchasing. Online tools are available to help you figure out which term for your life insurance policy is most recommended for people with similar lifestyles.

So now that you’ve got the how much, who and how long questions answered, youre ready to shop.

1. Compare life insurance quotes from multiple companies:
It pays to shop around because life insurance rates can vary considerably depending on the product you choose, your age, and the amount of coverage you request. This is the easy part, because with the Internet you can compare life insurance quotes easily, online, anytime.

2. Which life insurance rate has been quoted standard or preferred?
There are two basic life insurance rate groups you should know about when shopping for life insurance coverage: standard rates and preferred. Standard life insurance rates are the rates the majority of Canadians qualify for, while about one third of the population is eligible for preferred rates.

Preferred life insurance rates are typically offered to very healthy people and means you may pay a smaller premium than most. Usually preferred rates are offered only once the results of the medical information and tests are known. It will depend on your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, height, weight, and family health history. But preferred rates are worth it. They could save you up to 30-35% off your quoted premium.

When comparing prices, make sure you’re comparing ’standard to standard’ or ‘preferred to preferred’ life insurance rates. If you’re not sure, ask the broker. It would be disappointing to find out you were quoted preferred rates at the beginning, only to find out you don’t qualify for them later.

3. Review the life insurance broker’s availability:
How easily can you get a hold of the broker? What are their hours of operation? Whether it is through their website or telephone, the life insurance broker should be easily accessible to you should you ever have questions or need to speak to them about a change in your life insurance needs. Look for toll-free numbers and extended hours of service as guides.

4. Review the medical information required to obtain the policy:
Typically the more medical information you provide, the better the price. For a policy that asks few or no medical questions, you can bet the premium is higher for the same coverage then a plan asking for more information. Depending on the company, your age, and the amount of coverage you want, you could be asked to provide blood and urine samples. To obtain the samples, a nurse will visit at not cost to you.

5. Consider a life insurer’s financial stability and strength:
A company’s financial stability is something to consider if you are planning on making a long-term purchase like life insurance. There are organizations out there, like A.M. Best, that evaluate insurers and provide a rating on their stability and strength.

6. Ask about renewal options and requirements:
Once the initial premium is set, it is usually guaranteed for the length of the policy (often 10 or 20 years). But what happens when the policy expires? Most policies are renewable until you are 70 or 75 so don’t forget to ask your broker if you will have to take a medical to renew your policy. While your premiums will be higher on renewal, find out if they will also be guaranteed to remain level for the second term of the policy.

7. Confirm the policy can be cancelled without penalty:
Most term life insurance policies can be cancelled at any time without penalty. Make sure to check with your broker to see if the life insurance company has any unusual cancellation policies.

8. Consider the conversion options and restrictions for the policy:
As your life changes so do your life insurance needs and you may want the option to convert your coverage some day.

To convert a term life insurance policy means to transfer all, or part of, the death benefit of the policy into a permanent life policy without a medical. For example, say you originally bought a term policy to protect a mortgage and child. Once the mortgage is paid and the child grown, you might find it desirable to convert the policy into one that will give you a new level premium for the rest of your life, and a death benefit that is guaranteed not to expire as you age.

When you purchase your life insurance policy, find out if there are any limitations on your age at the time of conversion. In most cases, you have the option of converting up until you are 60 or 65. As well, ensure you are given several options of the type of policies you can move into, the more the better.

Final tip choose a life insurance broker you trust:
While it doesn’t necessarily impact the type of policy you choose to purchase, a rapport with your broker is critical in feeling comfortable with the life insurance policy you buy and the information you’ve received.

Whether or not a child needs life insurance coverage is a widely argued debate. If you examine the following information and feel that you are in a position that would benefit from life insurance being placed on your child, then this would be the best decision for you. Some people are not in a situation that would be helped by their child having life insurance. The conclusion to this debate will vary from person to person and you will only be able to get to the appropriate answer for your situation by thinking about the main points of such coverage.

Many people argue that children do not need life insurance. Being as the mortality rate for children is much lower than that of adults, some people feel that such coverage is an unnecessary economic drain on a family. On top of that, insurance is given out to individuals who have something to lose in the event of the untimely death of the individual insured. Adults often provide for their family. While children are beloved and indispensable on an emotional and mental level, they very rarely offer their family financial or monetary stability. As such, it is unlikely that, from a financial standpoint, individuals would have something to lose from the death of a child.

On the other side of the argument, some people feel that having a life insurance policy on a child is a good thing to put in place since it is never too soon to get life insurance coverage. Everyone dies, and these people will be prepared from a fiscal standpoint. As a person gets older, their life insurance premiums almost always increase over time. This is because individuals often open themselves up more to either short-term or long-term life-threatening practices, such as smoking, drinking, driving vehicles including motorcycles and the like. Children are still fairly innocent and limited in their exposure. Children can get some of the lowest insurance premiums offered by life insurance companies. In addition, many life insurance companies that offer coverage for children will keep the premiums the same, no matter how old the child eventually gets. There is definitely an advantage for individuals who have their insurance premiums set when they are three years old as opposed to fifty years old.

For the most part, a family’s financial situation will help them to determine which decision might be best for them. If a family has the extra money needed to pay for such a policy, it might be good for the child when it comes to the long-term experiences of their life. Specifically, it would be great for the child when it gets to the point that they would eventually need to file for life insurance coverage. However, if a family does not have the money needed for such a venture, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Most families do not need the policy coverage that the child’s policy would offer. The benefits are often established and developed later, when the child needs to take over such payments and they find out they will be paying a lot less compared to other people their age who are just now taking out life insurance policies.

Whole life insurance quotes the most expensive kind of policies that are on the market due the fact of cash value over time. Whole life insurance is permanent life insurance coverage that lasts as long as you live and continue to make ontime premium payments. The reason that whole life insurance quotes are so much more expensive is due to the fact that the policy will have to pay out a death benefit when you die.

Whole life insurance quotes are available online from many insurance companies that have an online presence. Online life insurance quotes let you search for the life insurance policy that best suits your needs. When you log onto each site, you can read the information regarding the whole life insurance policies available and request free quotes. You should request at least three quotes so you can compare the different rates.

When you compare the online whole life insurance quotes, the cheapest is not always the best one to choose. They are quite affordable because the payment of premiums stretches out over a longer period of time. When you are comparing the online life insurance quotes you receive, you shouldnt just think about the amount of the monthly premium but the length of time that you have to pay the premiums.

The death benefit you choose in the whole life insurance policy will never decrease and the premiums will always stay the same. With online life insurance quotes for term insurance, the benefit and the premiums remain the same for the term, but could change dramatically when you renew the policy at an older age.

In order to determine how much of a death benefit you need with whole life insurance, you should sit back and evaluate how much money your family would need to survive without you. You have to look at the fact that the bills still need to be paid and your income will no longer be available. The sum of the death benefit is one of the factors that does determine the price of the whole life insurance quotes you receive. Other factors include your age, occupation and health.

The younger you are when you choose to get whole life insurance, the lower cost it will be to you. In your later years, you wont have to budget for the premiums, because they will be paid up. You can also borrow against the amount of money you build up in the whole life insurance, but this part of the policy and doesnt have any effect on the whole life insurance quotes you receive.

When comparing whole life insurance quotes there are quite a few things to think about.

How To Quickly Find The Best Term Life Insurance Quote?

The concept of term life insurance is very easy to understand. Term life insurance remains effective for a limited, predetermined time span. A term life insurance holder pays regular premium during the term of his life insurance policy. If the insurance holder dies during the term, death benefits directly go to the beneficiary.

Most of the life insurance policies offer variety of options but term life insurance offer only limited flexibility. Additionally, term life insurance does not make any cash value or any residual. After the expiry of term life insurance policy, there is no use of it, you just need to renew it or purchase a new one.

It is also true that options are more readily available with other insurance solutions. Despite simplicity and limitations, term life insurance is still sensible among many customers.

Those who need temporary life insurance protection should prefer term life insurance policy. Some times it happens that an individual is not covered by any life insurance policy due to some reasons, under such circumstances, a term life insurance can fill the gap, protecting the financial interests of their family. If you also need life insurance coverage for a short period, term life insurance comes in picture.

Term life insurance is mostly meant for young working people with families. You can quickly find the best term life insurance quote using Internet. While searching for online term life insurance quotes you should keep some points in mind like the premium to be paid, term of the insurance, term life insurance rate, authenticity of the company etc. You can find affordable term life insurance by searching online life insurance companies. By comparing life insurance policies of different companies you can find the best term life insurance policy suitable for you. Life insurance is a must for all of us. Do not postpone it any more. Get a new life insurance. Good luck.

The subject of life insurance can be a confusing one and we spend a lot of time discussing various ways to buy life insurance. How much do I need? How much will it cost? Will my beneficiaries have enogh to live comfortably? What is the difference between cash-value and term life insurance? Which is the cheapest to buy?

CASH VALUE LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES
Cash value life insurance, such as universal and whole life, combine a death benefit and a tax deferred saving element. Occasionally referred to as permanent life insurance, these types of policies are intended to cover you for your lifetime.

Annual premiums for cash value policies generally are higher than those of term life policies as part of each premium pays for insurance and the remainder is invested. Cash value is what you can borrow from the policy or receive by surrendering it. These funds are ideal for retirement planning and college funding, among other goals, because they accumulate tax deferred until you withdraw them and then may be partially taxable. Loans and withdrawals will reduce the policies cash value and death benefit.

LIFE INSURANCE MADE EASY

Term life insurance is the most fundamental type of life insurance. You purchase coverage for a designated period, from one to many years and the policy will provide a death benefit if you die during that period. Many polices let you renew your coverage for repeated terms until age 65 or even 100.

Term life insurance is popular with younger people because it provides the maximum amount of coverage for the lowest cost. Early premiums are low and increase as you become older. For example, a $250,000 death benefit will cost less in your 30s than it will in your 50s. For this reason, term life insurance is usually a better value for shorter term or finite life insurance needs.

Why Buy Life Insurance?
Life insurance is generally offered as part of a benefits package with employment. For the most part, however, these policies are rather small, usually in the ten thousand dollar range. People buy life insurance policies so that their families will not have to bear financial burden when a loved one passes on.

There is another reason to buy life insurance, however, and it is the life insurance settlement. Your life insurance policy can be settled for a large sum before the end of your lifetime, though many people are not aware of this. Others buy life insurance specifically with this reasoning in mind.

Purchasing a Life Insurance Policy
Though it may sound strange, its actually a good idea to buy life insurance while the policyholder is still in good health. Rates are usually cheaper when this is the case, which makes buying a life insurance policy a whole lot easier. Also, rates are less expensive if you buy life insurance while still young. If youre young and in good health, its actually the best time of your life to purchase a life insurance policy as strange as that may sound.

Dont be afraid to do your own shopping around to find the best rates, and the best life insurance settlement. Comparison shopping is the way to make sure you get the best life insurance policy, and life insurance settlement, possible. Dont rely on your employer to give you all the life insurance coverage you need. Generally, life insurance policies and life insurance settlements offered as part of a benefits package will not have good payoffs.

The Life Insurance Settlement
There are many reasons that you may want to settle your life insurance policy. Sometimes, a life insurance settlement is the best thing you can do for your family. For instance, when the policyholder has reached the age of seventy and there is a need for a new life insurance policy or long-term care, your best option may be a life insurance settlement. A change in health status, estate tax charge, or when the policy has outlived the beneficiaries may all be reasons to consider a life insurance settlement, as well.

A large factor in the life insurance settlement is the need for liquidation of assets. This may be due to bankruptcy or other financial reasons, or simply that the policy holder would like to acquire the sum of the life insurance settlement early. Your reasons for settling your life insurance policy are your own, and if you feel the need for a settlement then you should pursue one.

Be sure to discuss your life insurance settlement options with your insurance company. If needed, have a new life insurance policy in place before going forward with your life insurance settlement. There is no reason you cannot have two or more life insurance policies at the same time.

A life insurance settlement can allow you to enjoy some of the benefits of your life insurance policy, and be a good source of income when long-term care or extra income is needed. Be sure to discuss the exact amount that you will receive from your life insurance settlement with your insurance company, and find out the payment scale and time frame for receiving your settlement. When you agree on a life insurance settlement, the paperwork that you sign should include all of this information. Be sure to look over any paperwork very carefully before signing, because you can never be too careful with insurance companies.

We know the importance of life insurance as we want to make sure that our loved ones are taken care of when we die. But do some research so you’ll be sure to get the best possible coverage at the right price. Here are some helpful tips:

1. Shop for your life insurance coverage
2. Never buy more coverage than you need
3. Buy sooner rather than later
4. Realize the importance of reviewing your coverage
5. You will be paying more by paying monthly
6. Don’t rely solely on the life insurance offered by your employer

SHOP FOR YOUR LIFE INSURANCE

When it comes to life insurance, it pays to shop around because premiums can vary widely. And thanks to the Internet, it’s now easier than ever.Make sure the website considers the factors in your medical history that can affect the premiums.

BUY LIFE INSURANCE THAT YOU NEED

The key to purchasing the right amount of life insurance is to have enough to meet your needs. It’s important not to have too little coverage as it would be difficult to purchase if you get sick.

The healthier you are, the better the life insurance rates
Healthy people get better rates on life insurance. You will be asked to pay a higher rate if you smoke, take medications regularly, are overweight or have a bad driving record.

GET YOUR LIFE INSURANCE WHILE YOU ARE WELL

If you’ve been putting off purchasing life insurance because you don’t want to pay the premiums, you may be doing yourself a disservice in the long run. If you are in good health, buy it now.

YOUR LIFE INSURANCE COVERAGE SHOULD BE REGULARLY REVIEWED

You’ll want to make sure that a major life event such as the birth of a child, marriage, divorce or perhaps that the children are grown won’t leave you underinsured or overinsured.

MONTHLY PREMIUM PAYMENTS FOR LIFE INSURANCE COSTS MORE

You will be paying more for your life insurance if you pay your premium in monthly installments.

GROUP LIFE INSURANCE

Don’t rely solely on the life insurance offered by your employer
Many employers offer their employees some sort of group life insurance. But this amount of coverage is usually not enough and group life insurance policies are not portable, meaning that if you leave your job, you can’t take your life insurance coverage with you.

Deciding on the wrong life insurance plan might leave a family without financial resources at the worst possible time.

Choosing between term and universal life insurance plans can be confusing. Only with some research and planning can a responsible choice be made.

Do You Even Need Life Insurance?

Before deciding between term and universal coverage, consumers need to determine whether or not life insurance is actually needed.

When you come right down to it, it’s a matter of money — if death would cause a financial burden for the family, then life insurance is critical. Financial matters to be considered include funeral costs, college tuition, and all outstanding and upcoming debts. For single people without children or dependents, life insurance is really optional.

Once you’ve made the decision to buy life insurance, then it’s time to determine which kind of policy is right. This is when you need a reputable insurance agent, referred to you by someone you trust. The agent can help you deal with the details of the various benefits and costs of multiple policy types.

Term Life

Term life insurance policies are among the most flexible and economical types of life insurance coverage available. These policies are designed for those who want basic coverage for a set time period without a savings account built in. This means that there will be no return on the money paid into the policy over the years.

Premium rates for a term life policy vary with the policy. Policies are usually purchased for 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30-year periods, and they may be renewable. Apart from low rates, the variety of term periods is one of the most appealing features.

For instance, a couple with a child entering college who want to ensure that tuition will be paid for in the event of their death, can purchase a term life policy for just those years. There is no reason to purchase a lifetime policy for a short-term need. Term policies with increasing or decreasing coverage are also available.

A disadvantage of term life policies is the inconsistency of their rates. While premium rates start out very low, they usually rise as policyholders age. Also, policyholders who want to renew after the initial term has ended, may find the renewal fees prohibitive.

Universal Life Insurance

Universal life insurance policies will pay any necessary death benefits, but also provide policyholders with an additional tax-deferred savings account advantage. Generally these policies must be held for a minimum of 15 years before resulting in any return from the savings account. They provide policyholders with a stable long-term investment that can be borrowed against or cashed out.

The premium rates and coverage provided by universal life policies remain constant throughout the years. Premium rates tend to be higher than with other policies, largely due to agent commissions, but under some plans the rates drop as the policyholder ages and may even disappear altogether. Unless the policy lapses, there are no renewal fees to contend with.

While some financial experts argue that there are better investment options available for educated consumers, many recognize universal life policies as having sound investment benefits.
